Blurrt on BBC Radio and Web discussing EURef media impact

As we’re nearing the EU Referendum vote on June 23rd, everyone is keen to answer the million pound (or euro) question, ‘Who’s going to actually win?’

As the result is seemingly too close to predict; we’re now turning to other mediums to see if they will give any indication as to which way it’s going to go.

Seeing as a lot of conversation is taking place on social media and as that’s exactly our cup of tea, so much so in fact that we’ve recently worked with Twitter and the Press Association to build the #EURef Data Hub, our opinion and expertise was also requested by the BBC.

CEO Jason and language analyst Owain were recently interviewed by BBC Wales & Cymru to provide some insights into how the referendum is being discussed on social media, which party has had the wider share of conversation and why we’re seeing this.

An article on BBC Wales entitled, ‘EU referendum: Measuring the influence of the media’, went live on Friday 17th June and looks at how traditional printed press may no longer be the key media influencer.

Blurrt chief executive Jason Smith said its research showed Vote Leave was “getting more traction on Twitter than the Remain campaign”.

“They probably see themselves as the underdog, so for them to overcome the natural obstacles that are in place, they and their supporters will promote themselves a lot more on social media than perhaps the Remain campaign, where it’s more of a status quo,” he said.
