Who better to track during the European Athletics Championships in Zurich than Mo Farah. We thought it would be interesting to see what the Twitter reaction would be to his return to competition following his recent injury, withdrawal from the Commonwealth Games and subsequent details of admission to hospital. Would Mo’s public sentiment still be high?

The 10,000 metres race started approx 19:25 BST and finished approx 19:52 BST. Taking a data window from 19:00 to 20:30 (30 mins either side of the race) the results were pretty conclusive.

It’s not hard to guess what that big spike is. A huge ramp up in tweets a few minutes after Mo crosses the line to win the gold medal.
