Lewis Hamilton may have won last weekends British GP at Silverstone, but the real story was the battle between Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel. That battle not only took place on the track but was hotly contested by F1 fans on Twitter.
We searched within our collected data for the time period 10:00 to 18:00 on the day of the race, to capture the build up, the race itself and immediate reaction. During that timeframe, there were 55,260 tweets. We then searched for “Vettel + Alonso” within that dataset. 5,130 tweets were posted about them both which is 9% of the total tweet volume.
The sentiment graph below shows F1 fans loving both the anticipated battle and actual racing between the two former world champions. A real positive reaction by fans at the end to what they had just seen.
