So Dan Biggar won the BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year 2015. But what was Twitter’s reaction during and after the awards. First some stats. We couldn’t find an official hashtag so we used the following search terms: #WalesSPOTY, Wales sports personality of the year, BBC Wales sports personality 2015, BBC Wales sports personality of the year.
The graph above shows the aggregated volume of tweets form 21:00 to midnight. The majority of the tweets were between 21:30 – 23:00. Here’s a breakdown of the tweet volume:
A very low number of original tweets, with most of the engagement on Twitter simply retweeting who had won. The award for the most retweeted tweet goes to the Welsh Rugby Union.
Amongst this small number of tweets there were a few dissenting voices, around the failure of Gareth Bale to even make the top 3:
Overall a poor level of engagement on Twitter, compounded by seemingly no official hashtag and more significantly no coverage on TV.
