T in the Park, the Twitter Buzz

July 14, 2014 — by

Scotland’s biggest music festival T in the Park took place this weekend with some of the UK’s biggest bands performing across the three days. The highly eclectic festival caters for a wide range of music tastes and attracts 85,000 festival goers per day. Naturally, those attending this weekend’s festival, or watching or listening elsewhere, took to Twitter to discuss and share their thoughts on T in the Park 2014.

Whist everyone else was off enjoying the festival fun however, Blurrt was busy at work collecting and processing the Twitter buzz to provide a detailed analysis of audience reaction.

A whopping 82,000 tweets were posted about the festival from 4pm on Friday afternoon to midnight on Sunday.

Main Stage headliners, Calvin Harris, Arctic Monkeys and Scotland’s own Biffy Clyro generated the biggest Twitter buzz each day. Biffy was the most talked about headliner of the festival with audiences describing them as “epic”, “brilliant” and “perfect”.

The gender demographic of those tweeting was a fairly even split between male and female, with marginally more females tweeting than males. There were also just as many organisations (other) tweeting about the festival as individuals.

The positive and negative sentiment expressed in tweets about the festival was also fairly even between male and female.

The majority of tweets and retweets posted about T in the Park were neutral, meaning they did not express a positive or negative opinion. Around 34% of tweets and retweets were positive and only around 12% were negative.

The positive tweets focused on the Main Stage bands, in particular the headliners, and the great festival atmosphere. The small amount of negative tweets discussed people bringing “Vote Yes” flags to the festival and Alex Turner’s performance on Sunday.
