Day 1 of Wimbledon 2014 began with some highly positive sentiment expressed on Twitter. Blurrt collected over 110k tweets mentioning Wimbledon (including retweets) of which 42% are positive, 12% negative and 46% neutral. Interestingly, and unlike most other mainstream sports, the fan base tweeting was split nearly equally between males and females.
The feelings expressed for Andy Murray during the first day were even more positive as seen from the data and selection of tweets below.
God bless being home in time to watch Murray open up at Wimbledon. Best two weeks of tennis have arrived. — Hannah Meyers (@hannah_m11) June 23, 2014
Lovely ovation for Andy Murray as he walked out on Centre court as defending champ. So far 3-0 up vs David Goffin. Come on Andy! #Wimbledon
