Lukaku Survives FPL Scare

August 29, 2017 — by

Blurrton Albion solidified their 5th place position in the Blurrt League on Match Day 3, with a fine performance from captain and new signing Marcos Alonso leading the way with 12 points. But who else made the headlines? And, more importantly, who will this week’s new signing be?

Top Performances

David de Gea’s fine late stop against Leicester preserved a clean sheet for the league leaders, meaning the United stopper is still yet to concede a goal this season. United’s defence have been superb, hardly letting opponents near the Spanish star, but when he has been called into action he’s been on top form. De Gea picked up 7 points after a more testing afternoon against the Foxes forced him into 4 saves; the future looks bright for Blurrton Albion as long as the Spaniard is between the sticks!

Marouane Fellaini may have only played 16 minutes, but he made them count! The big Belgian midfielder scored after he came off the bench to wrap up the points for the Red Devils, although his marginal offside position became a talking point after the game. Fellaini was the second most talked about midfielder on Game Week 3 thanks to his controversial involvement, meaning he was a winner not just on our pitch (with 6 points) but on social media too!

Dele Alli was Albion’s top scorer (before captain’s bonus was applied) this week, registering 9 points thanks to his goal against Burnley and 2 bonus points. The England star made no mistake with his finish, putting his side ahead 1-0, but generally dominated the game from midfield on his way to 2 bonus points.

Weak Links

Romelu Lukaku disappointed this weekend, scoring 0 points after a penalty miss. The Belgian striker didn’t have a bad game against Leicester overall, but failing to take your chances can cost you badly in the cut throat fantasy football world. Because of our rule about cutting the lowest scoring player, Lukaku’s 0 points made him a top candidate for the chop this week.

Luckily for Lukaku, Dominic Solanke was left on the bench for Liverpool as the Reds destroyed Arsenal (to the unbridled joy of Liverpool fan Conor, who doubled down on his happiness by going top of the Fantasy League thanks to Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino). Sadly for Solanke, Lukaku generated far more conversation than him. 223 posts were shared about Solanke, whilst 19,075 tweets were sent about Lukaku, meaning the big United striker gets to hold onto his place for another week.

Transfer Centre

So with Solanke on the way out, Blurrton Albion have 5.3 million to spend on a new striker. These days 5.3 million will hardly buy you a decent Championship striker in real life, but with cash in hand we went to the leaderboard in our hub to see who would be bulking up the squad this week.

Aleksandar Mitrovic will be the new Blurrton Albion forward, thanks to the Newcastle United striker’s goal against West Ham on Saturday. Mitrovic has been a fringe player for the Magpies in the first few weeks of the season, but he rounded the keeper with confidence to add a final gloss to his sides’ 3-0 victory.

Tammy Abraham and Joselu were both close to making the cut but unfortunately cost 5.5 million and were therefore just out of our price range. Abraham scored his first goal of his loan spell at Swansea, whilst Joselu scored on his debut for Newcastle. Neither player will be added to the squad this week, but keep an eye on them in the coming weeks for your own teams!

Alex Lacazette will be the captain going into the first week after the international break, with Fellaini taking over the vice-captaincy from team-mate Lukaku. Alberto Moreno comes in to replace James Milner, whilst new signing Mitrovic goes straight into the starting 11 in place of Tim Fosu-Mensah.
