John Major provokes anti-nuclear sentiment in #indyref

June 18, 2014 — by

Sir John Major was interviewed by Radio 4’s Today programme for his views on the Scottish referendum, amongst other things. Unsurprisingly he was anti Scottish independence. One of the factors he listed as a reason not to support the move to an independent Scotland, was the possible withdrawal of nuclear weapons.

In the few hours since the show was broadcast, Blurrt tracked the Twitter reaction.

Searching between 07:00 and 13:00 for “john major + nuclear” within our database of tweets pulled through over 600 tweets, 500 of which were re-tweets. The tweet below from ScottishCND had a massive reach and was typical of the sentiment expressed:

RT @ScottishCND: John Major – Independence will mean no nuclear weapons in UK. Good reason to #voteYes. @BBCr4today #indyref

Clearly the Blurrt Twitter data shows the interview provoked a small outpouring of anti-nuclear sentiment amongst the wider Scottish independence debate.
