iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch

September 10, 2014 — by

Blurrt has been tracking tweets mentioning iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus since Apple launched it’s new products in Cupertino yesterday. Jason Snell and Dan Moren’s slick and quirky double act bedazzled the audience with array of features and upgrades, saying they believed the new iPhone was the best ever.

At 10am GMT, the Twitter conversation rocketed up from a few thousand tweets per minute to a high of over 350k tweets at 6pm GMT. The majority of tweets were neutral as they mentioned the features as they were being announced, but the initial feelings about the new iPhone were as a whole more positive than negative (20% of tweets being positive, 11% negative, and 69% neutral).

After the guys at Apple referred to the display as a ‘new generation of retina HD displays’, over 3.8k people tweeted about the increased size of the iPhone 6  and 6 Plus (4.7 inches and the 6 Plus 5.5 inches respectively).  People were reasonably happy with the size increase with 23% of the tweets positive, 11% negative and 66% neutral. Here are some comments:

The new A8 chip increases the iPhone 6’s CPU efficiency by 25%, and the Twitter community loved this upgrade with 1.45k people commenting – 47% positive, 2% negative and 51% neutral. The 50% increase in battery efficiency was also popular with over 3k people tweeting, 45% positive sentiment, 13% negative and 42% neutral.

The 8 megapixel iSight camera with autofocus and image stabilizer was another improvement with video capture at 1080p 30fps or 60fps. But the feature to excite videographers is the built in slow mo feature. Over 4.5k people commented about the camera upgrade on Twitter with 45% of the discussion being positive and 10% being negative.

And finally the response to price was more muted with 3.88k tweets – 17% positive, 14% negative and 69% neutral.

The release date in the UK is 19th September and we will be able to monitor what people are saying on Twitter after testing – should be revealing.
