“Hear no evil; see no evil; test no evil”

We thought this tweet from a Dutch cycling commentator summed up the conversations around the WADA report into the IAAF #dopingscandal.

We started tracking the Twitter conversations around the publication of the report when the report was made public at 2pm on 9 November. In the space of a little more than 24 hours, there have been 20,360 tweets/retweets. The graphic below shows that visually over the 24 hours

We’ve analysed the topics of conversation that make up these 20,000 tweets and the overriding theme is suspension of Russia from athletic competitions.

So how have people received the devastating news contained in the report. Unsurprisingly there has been a negative reaction with a significant percentage of people being angry. Words such as “furious”, “angry”, “mad”, “bitter” and “hate” litter tweets on the subject.
