This project followed the second debate on BBC1 between Nigel Farage and Nick Clegg, and who won according to the LBC Twitter Worm.
The LBC Twitter Worm tracks every tweet about Nick Clegg and Nigel Farage and determines the sentiment in the tweet – whether it is positive or negative. And it shows that viewers on Twitter didn’t enjoy the debate as much as last week’s version on LBC, with both participants below zero for almost the entire debate. Clegg started the stronger of the two, but could not sustain the popularity and plummeted when asked about foreign policy. At one point, he joked “we are the party of in, they are the party of Putin” and Twitter groaned under the weight of the poor punchline! Following that, Nigel Farage was on top for the rest of the debate and proved most popular when talking about his principles.
